The last meal I ate was at the Mexican Lindo restaurant in the resort I booked a 5 night stay at this Resort in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. My last meal was at Mexican Lindo restaurant at the resort. Approximately 1 1/2 hours after my meal I... See More began experiencing severe abdominal discomfort followed by diarrhea. I barely slept that night. I checked out the next day still unsure of what brought on the discomfort and began my travels back to the States where I checked in to the hospital. Labs were done and came back conclusive positive for Colitis, food poisoning type 2. A stool sample revealed bacteria Salmonella. I was also treated for severe dehydration and lost 10lbs in the course of 24-36 hours. It was a horrible end to my stay at the resort. My wife got Salmonella at the resort on Sept 8. We believe it was the room service eggs. She almost died as a result of complications from the bacteria. Still in ICU day 10. 2 surgeries so far and still 1 to go and a long long road to recovery. | Symptoms: Diarrhea, Other See Less

Never left resort. Ate at buffet and at restaurant and then had diarrhea every 90 minutes thought the night. Once I started taking Pepto Bysmal, I made it through the rest of the 10 day trip with daily, but controllable diarrhea. August 2022. On day 2 of our 6 day trip, both of our boys (11 and 9) got severe diarrhea, severe vomiting, stomach pain and high fevers. They did not see outside of the resort until the awful treks to the airport. We had to book a... See More separate flight for myself and our younger son because he was not yet well enough to fly. I had to pay an additional $500 to stay in the same room so I didn't have to move my son. We are home now and tomorrow will be day 8. Fevers are still present as is diarrhea, and my youngest just vomited again. Doc is testing for Salmonella and E Coli. We spent thousands to take our boys on their first real vacation. I stayed at this resort from June 23 until June 26 a weekend getaway with my wife. We ate only at the resort and didn’t leave resort during our visit to Punta Cana. I end up having emergency surgery due to a bowel rupture due to being infected with salmonela and plesiomonas from food eaten at this resort. I was staying in a different building than they were and called the one girl at 4 in the morning out of desperation as I was vomiting and had diarrhea so bad I couldn’t stand. She came from her building and called a cart to take me to where they had what they referred to as a doctor. It was a room with no bathroom. I was on the floor throwing up in a garbage can and shaking violently. I asked for a blanket and they gave me a wet towel from under the air conditioner. She ( the pretend doctor ) gave me something but I was throwing up so violently. I knew I had to go to the hospital. My friend called a taxi but it never came and I finally just told them to call an ambulance. I went to the hospital in an ambulance. I got IV and two types of medicine. I have no idea what it was but they put it in my IV and the doctor said he thought with that I could make it back to the States. I was flying home that day and I was in a different airline than they were so I was alone. At ten am I took a taxi from the hospital to the resort. I had called my friend and the hotel allowed her to pack my things. I then took a shuttle to the airport. I don’t know how I even survived. It was a blistering 97 degrees and on a Saturday. I had extra tsa screening. I was barely standing. They brought me a chair on the jet bridge and kept asking if I was going to be able to go on the flight but I knew I had to get back to the states. It was by the Grace of god I made it home. On my layover in atlanta I literally couldn’t even stand in line to get a drink. I slept on the chairs. When I got back to Pennsylvania my daughter had to take me to the emergency room again where they gave me Morphene and Bactrim and promethazine and several things for diarrhea. I was off work for over a week. I still don’t know how I made it home but I still don’t feel like my body has recovered. I literally thought I was going to die in the DR. I didn’t realize that so many other people were also very sick at the same time and same resort. I was just reading an article that said there were ten reported falling Ill in 2018 and I decided I should share my story as I was also there in 2018. As a side note. I was 58 years old and hadn’t even had a doctor for 43 years. I was always the picture of health. Since then I have never felt like I fully recovered.
