Ada County residents, with 3 testing positive for campylobacteriosis. Provider Farms distributes directly to consumers at several distribution centers located from Nampa to Burley.

Since September 20th, the affected individuals displayed symptoms of this bacterial infection, including diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps. These were predominantly among those who admitted to drinking raw milk from Provider Farms.

CDH is conducting interviews with symptomatic patients and getting raw milk samples tested. ISDA is currently working with the raw milk vendor, Provider Farms, to mitigate any ongoing risk to consumers.

The ISDA cautions all those who have purchased raw cow milk products from Provider Farms in the last 30 days to dispose of such products to avoid any potential health hazard. Consumption of raw, unpasteurized dairy products carries associated risks, especially among high-risk groups like young children, pregnant women, the elderly, and those with compromised immunity.

Health authorities in Utah are investigating an outbreak of campylobacteriosis related to the consumption of raw, unpasteurized milk. confirmed elsewhere in the state, raising the total cases to 14. 1 individual required hospitalization but is currently convalescing at home. The source of contamination is under investigation.

This campylobacteriosis outbreak has highlighted the inherent risks of consuming raw milk, which can harbor harmful bacteria like Campylobacter, Salmonella, Listeria, and E. coli. These pathogens can cause serious foodborne illnesses, and in rare cases, paralysis or death. While raw and unpasteurized dairy products may be directly sold from farm to consumer in Utah, public health officials strongly advise against their consumption. However, there are currently 16 licensed raw milk retailers in the state, three of which are in Salt Lake County.

It is crucial to note that raw milk contaminated with harmful bacteria does not differ in smell or appearance from uncontaminated milk.

In case you experienced Campylobacter symptoms such as diarrhea (often bloody), fever, nausea, vomiting, and stomach cramps, report it now. It can help to detect & resolve outbreaks early and prevent others from being harmed, and it enables better surveillance. If symptoms persist, seek medical care.

I started feeling sick the next day and have been going to the bathroom several times every hour for several days. I was hospitalized for dehydration. Labs came back as Campylobacter. It is day 7 now and I can eat a little and walk around a little and keep down some liquid. Stomach cramps were the worst I've ever had, but it's getting better. My job is putting me on short-term disability because I've missed so much work. Thanks a lot Cafe Rio. Please people don't order their delivery.
