Consuming food contaminated with plastic pieces can potentially cause harm, depending on the size and shape of the plastic. Small, sharp pieces could cause injury to the mouth, throat, or digestive tract. Larger pieces could potentially cause choking or blockages in the digestive system. However, small, non-sharp pieces are likely to pass through the digestive system without causing harm. It's important to note that repeated or long-term exposure to certain types of plastics may have additional health effects, but this is outside the scope of foodborne pathogens and illnesses.

If you or a loved one are harmed or experiencing any symptoms, it is important to report it. Reporting can help to detect & resolve outbreaks early and prevent others from being harmed, and enables better surveillance. If symptoms persist, seek medical care.
