    An outbreak of Shiga toxin-producing E. coli O157:H7 has been linked to PCC Community Markets – West Seattle Co-op in Seattle, with five reported cases and one hospitalization. The outbreak appears to be over, but the investigation is ongoing.

    The outbreak, which occurred between February 14 and... See More February 28, 2024, is associated with store-made guacamole purchased from the co-op on February 10, 2024. All five individuals affected exhibited symptoms of Shiga toxin-producing E. coli.

    Disease Investigators conducted in-depth interviews with the affected individuals and Environmental Health Investigators visited the grocery on March 15, 2024. Laboratory testing confirmed four of the five cases as positive for E. coli O157:H7, with three of these cases genetically matching, indicating a common source of infection.

    In case you are experiencing E. coli symptoms such as watery diarrhea (often bloody), vomiting; stomach cramps; and mild fever, it is important to report it. It can help to detect & resolve outbreaks early and prevent others from being harmed, and it enables better surveillance. If symptoms persist, seek medical care.
