Chicken Soup Product by Von's - Public Health Alert

United States

The FSIS issued a public health alert about an undetermined amount of Chicken Soup product by Whole Foods Market, Inc. because they were misbranded. The chicken soup product contains and declares wheat as an ingredient but has an incorrect statement of "gluten-free" on the top label.

FSIS is concerned that some product may be in consumers’ refrigerators. Consumers with food allergies who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.

This product was sold in retail locations in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, and Wisconsin. The ready-to-eat chicken noodle soup products subject to the public health alert are:

- Signature CAFÉ Chicken Noodle Soup with White Meat Chicken (24-oz. plastic containers). Best by dates: Apr. 27, 21 | May 2, 21 | May 8, 21 | May 16, 21.

A recall was not requested because the affected products were produced and distributed among retail locations within the same corporate entity and sold directly to consumers. It is believed that these products are no longer available to be purchased by consumers.

Consumers and members of the media with questions about the public health alert can contact Christine Wilcox, G.V.P. Communications, Albertsons Companies at christine.wilcox@albertsons.com. Consumers with food safety questions can call the toll-free USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline at 1-888-MPHotline (1-888-674-6854) or live chat via Ask USDA from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (Eastern Time) Monday through Friday

Raja Foods LLC of Skokie, Il is recalling its 3.5 ounce package of "SWAD CINNAMON POWDER" because it has the potential to be contaminated with lead. Product was distributed thru retail grocery stores in the Midwest, Northeast, and Southeast regions of the United States. There have been... See More no illnesses reported to date.

If a child is exposed to lead for a protracted period of time (e.g., weeks to months) permanent damage to the central nervous system may occur. This can result in learning disorders, developmental defects, and other long-term health problems. For adults, chronic lead exposure is associated with kidney dysfunction, hypertension, and neurocognitive effects.

The products included in this recall are, SWAD BRAND CINNAMON POWDER in clear plastic 3.5 OZ bags, UPC 0-51179-34280-4, from either of the following two batches and Best Before Dates: Batch KX21223 Best Before July 2026 and Batch KX08123 Best Before March 2026.

About 24 hours ago on March 12th I purchased chicken breast at Publix on rivers edge. When I got home I cooked it. Because I was cooking other dishes and using seasoning, I didn't initially realize the smell. I took a bite out of the chicken and... See More it tasted absolutely disgusting. It tasted completely off. I smelled the chicken more closely and it smelled vaguely rotten. The smell got worse after about 15 minutes as the chicken cooled. I called the store and they apologize, gave me a refund, and accepted my return of all the other chicken that I purchased that day. I am concerned that there is a bigger issue at hand, either at the store where the chicken is not being kept correctly, or in transport. It makes no sense that chicken that was supposed to be good for another week was immediately rotten when I had purchased it from the store that same day. Now, 24 hours later, I'm experiencing nausea and gi issues. | Symptoms: Nausea, Vomiting See Less

My family and I visited Tahini in Mahogany Plaza on March 5th. I had the Gyro Shawarma, and my kids shared a Jamaican Jerk Chicken Shawarma. See More was dismissive, which was concerning given the seriousness of food making people ill.

I'm sharing our experience to caution others potentially considering this establishment. Despite their claims of offering healthy food, our experience suggests otherwise. There are many genuinely healthy dining options in the Mahogany area, and I recommend exploring those instead. Based on this experience, we won't be returning to Tahini. | Symptoms: Nausea, Diarrhea, Vomiting
