Resort Fajitas: Severe Illness - BlueBay Grand Esmeralda, Playa del Carmen Quintana Roo

3 weeks ago reported by user-pgbk4743 business

BlueBay Grand Esmeralda, Puerto Juarez, Carretera Chetumal, Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, Mexico

Carretera Chetumal, Playa del Carmen, 77710 Quintana Roo, Mexico

Myself and four of my friends experienced horrible food poisoning after eating at the Mexican restaurant at the Bluebay Grand Esmeralda in April 2026. We all had either chicken or beef fajitas and we all got sick, except for my one friend who is gluten free. Luckily she was the one who didn’t get food poisoning out of all of us, however given her prior medical history this could have been a very potentially dangerous situation for her. This is a bigger issue than just one food product, it’s a food issue across the board.
We ate our contaminated fajitas around 8:30pm. A few hours later, starting at midnight and going all the way to 9am, my friends and I projectile vomited so heavily by the end it was only stomach bile we were puking up. We had little to no alcohol this night and were all sober. The diarrhea we all experienced was unlike anything we had ever been through before. These came in frequent waves for everybody and by the next morning the whole room smelled of vomit and shit. Everyone was exhausted, sleep deprived, pale, and weak by the end of this hours long ordeal.
We all agreed we couldn’t trust any of the food at this resort, specifically meats. Coati and stray cats run all around the restaurants and servers typically wash their hands in the same tub they wash the dishes. We believe with this fajita situation that raw chicken was left out far too long and cooking utensils were not cleaned. The rest of the trip is a complete write off as we are all too dizzy, weak, and distrustful to even attempt to eat more food at this resort. Doesn’t help the extreme lack of shade on this resort, the dismissive attitude of the employees about our situation (until we managed to speak to a supervisor), and my friends and I continuing to throw up any liquids we drink shortly after drinking them. We’re miserable here. I have never personally experienced food poisoning but my two friends who had in the past said this was 100x more violent and draining.
A health inspector should be going through every single restaurant on this resort and hammer down. I hate to imagine if a child or an older individual had eaten this and experienced what my friends and I went through. It’s appalling. | Symptoms: Nausea, Diarrhea, Vomiting, Stomach Pain, Fever, Chills, Headache, Bile
