The evacuated Barton House residents, currently staying at the Holiday Inn, have been hit by a norovirus outbreak. Several residents have exhibited symptoms of vomiting, diarrhoea, and rashes.

Further details reveal that the norovirus outbreak has led to the involvement of several organizations including the UK Health... See More Security Agency (UKHSA), Bristol City Council, and the Integrated Care Board, to determine the necessary course of action to curb the spread of the virus in the hotel. Concerns have escalated as over 60 households from Barton House, displaced for over two months, are currently residing in the hotel.

The outbreak was first recognized following a series of complaints regarding the living conditions at the hotel. The complaints, specifically about the standard of food and communication from the council, led to an investigation that ultimately unveiled the norovirus outbreak.

Residents have been advised to quarantine in their rooms for a minimum of two days post-sickness to help prevent further contagion. The hotel, in response to the outbreak, has initiated measures such as in-room meal deliveries, replacement bedding, and intensive cleaning operations.

Despite these precautions, the situation remains critical. Residents experiencing persistent symptoms are strongly advised to seek medical attention as soon as possible. If symptoms persist, seek medical attention. The relevant authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and are taking necessary actions to safeguard the residents' health while ensuring the outbreak is properly managed.

Norovirus is very contagious and is easily transmitted from person to person most through the oral/fecal route. Considering that hand sanitizer does NOT work against this virus, it is important to wash your hands with soap frequently. Use bleach to clean and disinfect surfaces.

In case you experience Norovirus symptoms, such as vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, and nausea, report it now. It can help to detect & resolve outbreaks early and prevent others from being harmed, and it enables better surveillance. If symptoms persist, seek medical care
