“Got sick on the last day (day 6). Not sure where it came from, suspect sushi from Japanese restaurant or spoiled fruit. Fever of 104, aching joints, nausea, extremely fatigued, diarrhea, headache, chills, nonstop abdominal cramps. Could not eat for three days. It was an effort just to get a saltine... cracker down. Drank water and pedialyte and was on the couch for three days. Took antibiotic. Mostly recovered after 5 days, stool not yet solid and abdomen still cramps a little. ”

“Was there on vacation with family 2/26 to 3/01. After eating dinner on 2/28 at the steak house 3am work in with sharp pain, Nausea and diarrhea for hours. And to make things worse I was flying home that day. I reported to front desk and also ask if they have any medications I could take and they tol... d me to go to the pharmacy I can purchase something there. I could barely make it on the flight home thank for it was only 2hrs. That night I got home I started having chills, severe diarrhea and vomiting I felt I was going to die and this continued for 3days straight. I filed a complaint with the hotel and has yet to hear anything almost a week later. This is the worst I’ve ever been sick I really loved the hotel and was raving to friends in the beginning but now I would not recommend going here to anyone unless you want to come back sick.. and reading all the post on here something is def wrong with the food at this hotel it need to be inspected before someone die. This is not safe!!!!!!!!!! And the way the hotel handles your complain is disgusting!!!!!! People paid a lot of money to enjoy their vacation not be sick or come home sick.. trust me I’ve travelled to many island including DR stayed at a different hotbed and this is the first this happened to me... BEWARE and STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!! ”

“Two friends recently traveled to Punta Cana Hard Rock Cafe Resort. They were there several days. Suddenly they both had vomiting and later diarrhea, within 30min of each other. They needed IV fluids. They were sent in an ambulance, and this is where everything fell apart. We all know food poisoning... happens. But how they were treated was terrible. They do not speak Spanish. They were transferred past the nearest hospital (which takes international insurance) to a hospital 40+ minutes away (which does not). The resort should have, but did not send a representative to serve as a translator for the two. They received adequate care but there was no communication about what was occurring, diagnosis, now what medications they were being given. They were each demanded that they pay for the ambulance ride, doctor assessment/consult fees up front. They felt that if they did not pay they would receive worse care or that something even worse would happen to them. They were afraid for their lives in a foreign country with no one speaking their language. They were told by the resort they could take a cab back. Only upon pressure from relatives did the resort agree to send a vehicle to pick them up. Do not go to this resort. After researching the internet, apparently multiple other individuals and families had the exact same situation. It seems that this is a scam. Perhaps the hospital gives the resort a kickback for the money they receive from foreigners. Not sure. It is absolutely suspicious. For other families, armed guards at the hospital were used in intimidation techniques to get money from the poor travelers. Not so this time, thank God. ”

“Papaya, ribeye steak. I am reporting as the mother to one of the young adults that took ill on the evening of February 24th. My daughter and her boyfriend ate papaya, he had just a bite but she completed the serving. Of note, my daughter also had the ribeye steak later in the day (I noticed the post... ing on 2/22 of someone getting sick as well from the steak). That evening my daughter called me (I am a physician) and said that she and her boyfriend have been vomiting for several hours, have a fever, and now are experiencing diarrhea. I told her to go to the resort infirmary/ house physician. They did but it was closed until 8:30 am the next day. By Thursday morning, my daughter had passed out on the bathroom floor and her boyfriend, while also sick but not as severe, called the house doctor. Both were taken to a hospital 45 minutes away from the resort by ambulance (nearest hospital 10-15 min away from the resort and accepts international insurance). IV's were placed in both of them, my daughter was taken to the ambulance by stretcher since she was lethargic and hypotensive. Her boyfriend was able to walk with IV in place. No liaison from the resort escorted them; neither of the young adults spoke Spanish. To make a very long 48 hr short, I must assume they received adequate care but had no English communication as to what was being done to them. We were able to find an acquaintance from the Dominican Republic that my daughter would call on the phone whenever a physician would come in to see them. This individual also interpreted when they were still in the emergency and were asked for the credit card to pay for the ambulance ride and a consultation (we are not sure if that was the resort physician's fee or someone who saw them in the ER). There were no sheets on the beds other than the fitted mattress sheet. Both of the kids had vomit and feces on their clothes and were never offered hospital attire, never offered a shower, not even a toothbrush. They were pretty much forced to stay the night on Thursday because the doctor left the hospital and left no orders. Friday morning comes around, their symptoms have resolved but are exhausted, wanting to go back to the resort so they could shower and sleep. Doctor finally comes in and now tells them that they want them to stay to at least 4 pm so they can eat solid food and have a bowel movement (it is now 10 am and they were never served breakfast). She calls me and I tell her to sign the voluntary discharge papers and go back to the resort. Those papers took two hours to complete. Originally the Resort told them via "What's App" that they could catch a cab (40 min away) when they got discharged. My husband was finally able to get ahold of a manger from the Resort and while the manger claimed he could not discuss the case with my husband because he didn't really "know if he was speaking to the father", somehow a car was dispensed from the resort to Hospiten Bavaro to pick up two young adults that were being discharged and coming back to the resort. Fortunately these two people were young and healthy. They are safely back in the states and want to put their horrific ordeal behind them. But as a healthcare worker I am concerned and frustrated that this incident in Dominican Republic continues to happen over and over again. While I understand that mishaps can happen I strongly feel that these resorts need to up their game. When someone gets sick and must go to the hospital, send a liaison so the patient can understand what is being done to them. Ask the patients if relatives should be contacted in their homeland. In addition, why are these resorts sending these patients to a hospital 45 min away from the resort when there is a much closer hospital which can deal with dehydration and food poisoning? All questions that a health department in any country should be investigating. I tried to report this to the local health department and have been currently unsuccessful; I found this website and hope others will benefit from this posting. ”

“food poisoning I woke up tuesday February 16th with loose bowels and feeling a bit quesy. I'd ordered room service the night before so i figured something may have upset my stomach. My boyfriend and I went to the travel club and I had to excuse myself twice to use the washroom. I still dismissed it... and attempted a buffet breakfast before being transported to our flight. Once onboard I realized that something was very wrong. I had numerous bouts of violent vomitting and watery stools accompanied by body aches, headaches and dizziness. I was terrified of leaving the airplane's lavatory and I'm sure my numerous extended bathroom visits ,amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, worried the other passengers.

“This market district mango popsicles. I ate a popsicle. About 10 minutes later I got so dizzy that I had to pull the car over. The dizziness subsided enough for me to drive. But I still felt short of breath and tingling in my hands. I began to feel very nauseous. And it was everything I could do to... be able to drive the short way home before I threw up. Once I threw up I felt a lot better.

“March, 27 2021. I hadn't eaten all day and got taco 3 supremes there at5:02. By 7:30 I had severe stomach cramps, the nausea, then I threw up my meal. The symptoms came on fast. I was doubled over with stomach cramps and had terrible dry heaves that it made it difficult to get to my bathroom. I was... cold but didn't have a fever or diarrhea which I couldn't believe since I felt so bad. I have the receipt and packaging. I have no doubt I got food poisoning from eating there.
I eat healthy and never eat fast food. I chose to that day unfortunately.
I was so cold and my headache was unrelenting. It didn't take long for my symptoms to start and the severity.
Almost 48 hours later I am weak and still have a headache.
It came on so fast. I can't even think of that place without getting a sick feeling. I have the receipt, the bag it came in and all the taco wraps and opened hot sauce. This poisoning was brutal and it needs to be reported. ”
