FDA announced the recall of 9,593 cases of Mott's no sugar-added applesauce by Mott's, LLP because of elevated patulin levels. This product was distributed in the following states: Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Wisconsin.
The recalled product is:
- Mott-s no sugar added applesauce 6 pack 3.9 oz (111g) Containers 23.4 oz (666g). Individual units are packaged in plastic cups and placed in a cardboard sleeve of 6 sups with 12 sleeves to a case. Retail unit UPC: 14800000078. Case label UPC: 10014800000075. Codes: 042123LYtt:tt / Best By: AUG 13 24 and 042223LYttt:tt / Best By: AUG 14 24
This recall was initiated on 5/18/2023 and its status is ongoing. Do not consume, use, sell, serve, or distribute the recalled product.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Patulin is a mycotoxin produced by a variety of molds, particularly Aspergillus, Penicillium, and Byssochlamys. Often found in rotting apples and apple products, patulin can also occur in various moldy fruits, grains, and other foods.
