I had a kale and romaine caesar salad with balsamic dressing for lunch on 9/7. I had an unsweet iced tea with some lemon wedges, and I had a few bites of my daughter's filet mignon. My daughter did not get sick. I got horribly sick that evening, with cramps, vomiting, and diarrhea, as well as a fever and chills. I couldn't even keep water down. The next day I called my doctor. She recommended that I go to the ER. I did. They did an EKG, CT scan, and labs tests. They diagnosed food poisoning. The CT scan showed inflammation of the colon but no other underlying problems. My white blood cell count was elevated. My EKG showed some irregularities, likely because of electrolyte imbalance caused by dehydration. They gave me IV fluids, magnesium, and morphine (possibly other things). They discharged me with a Rx for Ondansetron. Three days later, the vomiting and diarrhea had stopped, but the fever and severe stomach pain had not. On my doctor's advice I went back to the ER (at a different hospital that would have been able to admit me for overnight or longer if needed). They repeated all the tests, including the CT. The tests showed improvement but didn't explain the continuing fever and pain. They gave me a Rx for Augmentin. I should add that I've been taking Tylenol as directed since Monday. Finally, 5 days later, I'm starting to feel better. Until now I've basically been bedridden--it was too painful to sit up in bed or walk around the house. Today, if I'm careful, I can walk around a little. I've missed 5 days of work and don't have enough sick leave for them. This is the sickest I've been in many, many years. I'm dreading the ER bills. | Symptoms: Nausea, Diarrhea, Vomiting, Stomach Pain, Fever, Cramps, Chills, Dehydration
