Iwaspoisoned Data and Insights to be Presented at ID Week 2024

We are grateful to have been given the opportunity to share that data and insights from our platform will be showcased at ID Week from October 16-19, 2024. This year’s joint annual meeting of the Infectious Diseases Society of America, the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America, the HIV Medicine Association, the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society, and the Society of Infectious Diseases Pharmacists will take place in Los Angeles, CA. We are eager to participate and present our research on utilizing crowdsourced data as an innovative tool to enhance public health surveillance.

Our research represents a collaborative effort between our team and distinguished professors at North Carolina State University. The study explores the correlation between self-reported norovirus-like symptoms collected via Iwaspoisoned's global crowdsourcing platform and epidemiological data from the Norovirus Sentinel Testing and Tracking network. The findings highlight the potential of crowdsourced data to serve as a valuable complement to traditional public health surveillance and improve norovirus outbreak forecasting. This work marks a significant step forward in our understanding of norovirus, a leading cause of foodborne illness worldwide.

ID Week is the foremost annual meeting for professionals in infectious diseases, attracting over 8,000 experts from around the world. The conference provides a vital platform for sharing cutting-edge research, clinical insights, and innovative approaches to combating infectious diseases. We are honored that our co-author, Dr. Lee-Ann Jaykus, Professor Emerita at North Carolina State University, will be presenting our research findings. Dr. Jaykus is a renowned expert in food microbiology, with a particular focus on microbial food safety. She earned her Ph.D. in Environmental Sciences and Engineering from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her research primarily centers on food virology and the transmission of enteric viruses through the food chain. Dr. Jaykus has also led the USDA-NIFA Food Virology Collaborative, known as NoroCORE, a landmark project in this field. Her significant contributions to food safety have earned her widespread recognition and numerous accolades. Her expertise has been invaluable to this study, and her presentation is expected to be both enlightening and informative. As we prepare to present our findings at IAFP 2024, we look forward to contributing to the global dialogue on food safety and advancing our shared efforts to address foodborne illnesses.
