US - Philly Cheese Steak recalled over possible Listeria contamination

CTI Foods LLC recalled over 6,720 pounds of ready to eat Philly Beef Steak products that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. These items were shipped to a food service warehouse in Hamilton, Ohio and further distributed to several food service locations according to the recall notice on U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) website.

No illnesses have been linked to this case as of Sept. 13th. Anyone with concerns about the illness or anyone who has developed symptoms should contact a healthcare provider and inform them about possible exposure to the bacteria.

Consumption of food contaminated with L. monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, a serious infection that primarily affects older adults, persons with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women and their newborns. Listeriosis can cause fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions sometimes preceded by diarrhea or other gastrointestinal symptoms.
