New Norovirus Outbreak in National Geographic Sea Bird Cruise

Lindblad Expeditions' cruise ship, National Geographic Sea Bird, experienced a gastrointestinal illness outbreak during its July 10-15, 2026 voyage. Eighteen of the 62 passengers reported symptoms such as vomiting and abdominal cramps, while no crew members were affected. The causative agent remains unknown, and the outbreak was reported on July 12, 2026.

The outbreak prompted immediate action from Lindblad Expeditions, including enhanced cleaning and disinfection procedures, isolation of ill passengers, and collection of stool specimens for testing. The Vessel Sanitation Program (VSP) is remotely monitoring the situation, reviewing the ship's response and sanitation measures to ensure compliance with health standards.

The outbreak was discovered when passengers began reporting symptoms to the onboard medical center, which allowed for quick detection and response.
