Princess Cruises' Ruby Princess has experienced a norovirus outbreak, affecting 102 passengers and 23 crew members during its June 12 to July 2, 2026 voyage. The outbreak, reported on June 28, 2026, resulted in symptoms such as diarrhea and vomiting among those on board the ship, which carried 3,032 passengers and 1,144 crew members. The outbreak was identified when an increasing number of passengers and crew reported gastrointestinal symptoms to the ship's medical center. The medical staff evaluated these reports, confirming the presence of norovirus. Princess Cruises promptly implemented enhanced cleaning and disinfection procedures, isolated affected individuals, and collected stool samples for further testing.
The Vessel Sanitation Program (VSP) was consulted to ensure proper sanitation measures were in place. VSP is remotely monitoring the situation, reviewing the ship's outbreak response and sanitation procedures to mitigate the spread of the virus. The quick reporting of symptoms by passengers and crew played a crucial role in the early detection and response to the outbreak.
