Banana Food Poisoning

Bananas are usually thought of as safe to eat after food poisoning, but you can get sick from them as well. Whether eaten by itself or as part of a dish like a banana split, it is possible to get sick from bananas. The main source of illness comes from germs on the peel contaminating the inside.

ProBox, a food company based in Ireland, has issued a recall for all of its Just Smoothie products. The recall is due to the company not having the required approval to produce these items, and for using an incorrect approval number.

The recalled products include Just Smoothie … See More
Banana & Mango, Just Smoothie Forest Berries, Just Smoothie Strawberry & Banana, and any other ProBox Just Smoothie products. All of these items come in a 250 ml pack size. The recall applies to all batches and best before dates of these products.

The issue was discovered during a routine check by the company. Retailers have been requested to remove all ProBox Just Smoothie products from sale, and consumers are advised not to consume the implicated smoothies.

If you or a loved one are harmed or experiencing any symptoms, it is important to report it. Reporting can help to detect & resolve outbreaks early and prevent others from being harmed, and enables better surveillance. If symptoms persist, seek medical care.

I ate several servings of the limited edition "Strawberry Banana Cheerios" approx. two weeks ago, and within hours of ingestion each time, had mucosal diarrhea (that definitely smelled like Cheerios). I thought maybe it was the variety, as I hadn't had it before. Yesterday, I decided to try the "Chocolate Cheerios" I had purchased at the same time, and sadly had the exact same reaction. Something is definitely wrong with Cheerios.

that morning. Boarded our short flight and within 20 minutes of landing my gf began vomiting, which continued for hours. Resulted in having to take her to the ER as she was losing fluids fast and couldn't hold anything down. Ended up spending 12 hours in the hospital and took 3 full bags of saline (and whatever else) to get her back to normal. Fantastic way to start a vacation.
