after dinner Thursday night (1/18/24) for dessert. Later that evening my husband said “I dunno why, but Lucky Charms always messes me up.” And I thought that’s so silly, it’s cereal, come on. Then all day Friday I had stomach cramps and rough bowel movements, which evolved to severe diarrhea all day Saturday - I thought, no way it can be Lucky Charms, but then I looked into it and saw all the reports of food poisoning and thought - wow maybe my husband was on to something. So I wanted to let people know - I will not be buying Lucky Charms again that’s for sure. It’s a shame they closed the investigation because it has not been resolved and the products should be recalled until new batches have been made under tighter regulations.  | Symptoms: Nausea, Diarrhea, Cramps

not get sick at all. The three affected individuals only had the fish itself in common; two substituted the fries for plantains and one did not consume the cole slaw. They also all had different drinks. I was the first to get sick. It started with a general feeling of malaise within the couple of hours that I was waiting for my afternoon flight to get in. It eventually evolved into vomiting a few hours later in-flight, and even after I’d purged all my stomach contents, I continued to dry heave on and off until around 6am the next morning, after which point the uncontrollable diarrhea started and continued until I finally acquired some imodium that night. Multi-country (Europe & USA) Shigella sonnei outbreak linked to travel to Cape Verde

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) has announced a multi-country Shigella sonnei outbreak involving the United States and many countries in the European Union/European Economic Area (EU/EEA). The outbreak began in September 2022 and has continued to evolve rapidly during November and December 2022. … See More


As of February 16th, 2023, 10 EU/EEA countries and the UK reported and the US reported 221 confirmed Shigella sonnei infections and 37 possible cases linked to travel to Cape Verde, in the image below you can find more details. While the exact source of the outbreak has not been identified, investigations are ongoing in Cabo Verde. It is believed that the infection was spread through food, including through infected food handlers, as well as through person-to-person contact.

The strain of Shigella involved in the outbreak is resistant to trimethoprim and streptomycin, and in some cases, multidrug resistance has been detected. Many cases have been linked to all-inclusive hotels located in the region of Santa Maria on the island of Sal. The most recent cases were reported in Sweden on 19 January 2023.

In response to the outbreak, ECDC is urging public health authorities in the EU/EEA to increase awareness among healthcare professionals and is working with the World Health Organization to support investigations in Cabo Verde. To prevent further spread of the infection, ECDC is recommending that people practice good handwashing with soap and water and take additional care with food and drink when traveling abroad. People with shigellosis should not attend school, handle food, or provide care for children or patients while ill.

In case you are experiencing Shigellosis symptoms such as watery diarrhea (often bloody), vomiting; stomach pain; and fever, it is important to report it. It can help to detect & resolve outbreaks early and prevent others from being harmed, and it enables better surveillance. If symptoms persist, seek medical care.

My mistake was not returning that order. It didn't taste good, it didn't taste, it wasn't the kind of dish I would be served at Applebee's, at least not in view of the previous years I went there. A few hours later I started severe food poisoning, with lots of abdominal pain, nausea, shortness of breath, vomiting and diarrhea, the complete package. Both child and adult are vegetarian. We shared one bowl of rice, beans, corn salsa, pico, and guac here at the Detroit Airport A terminal around 3:00 pm 3/27/2022.
