It is possible to get food poisoning from mustard. In 2015 a Canadian brand of mustard was recalled due to Clostridium botulinum contamination. Clostridium botulinum thrives in an acidic environment and an infection is often characterized by blurred vision and stomach cramping.

The recalled products are:

These products were offered for sale until May 16, 2023, and were packed in various types of packaging and sold in a chilled state. The label of the products included the words ‘EATZ ENCORE’.

Additionally, affected individuals who have any of these products in their possession are advised not to consume it. They must return it to the establishment where they bought it or throw it away.

- 2.0-oz. clear bags containing Mitten Gourmet “PIZZA Pork Rinds”
- 2.0-oz. clear bags containing Mitten Gourmet “BUFFALO Pork Rinds”
- 2.0-oz. clear bags containing Mitten Gourmet “NACHO CHEESE Pork Rinds”
- 2.0-oz. clear bags containing Mitten Gourmet “JALAPENO Pork Rinds”
- 2.0-oz. clear bags containing Mitten Gourmet “HONEY MUSTARD Pork Rinds”

The affected products were produced on various dates from September 9, 2021, through May 5, 2023, and do not bear the USDA mark of inspection because Mitten Gourmet, LLC, is not a federally inspected establishment.
The problem was discovered during routine FSIS surveillance activities when the ready-to-eat pork rind products were observed for sale without the USDA mark of inspection. FSIS determined that the producer is not an FSIS-inspected facility.
FSIS is concerned that some products may be in consumers’ pantries. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
