Onion Food Poisoning

Onions can be a source of food poisoning. In 2021, onions were recalled after causing a Salmonella outbreak affecting more than 1,000 individuals in the US. A Salmonella infection often occurs 12-72 hours after consumption, and is associated with stomach cramps and diarrhea.

Observed 2 live roaches crawling on wall behind hand washing sink in kitchen area, 3 live roaches crawling on a deli slicer on top of preparation table next to seasonings, salsa, and mustard, and 1 live roach crawling on broom stored inside of kitchen next to reach in cooler. **Warning**

- High Priority - Roach excrement and/or droppings present. Observed 1 roach egg on top of a can of tomato sauce also approximately 20+excrements on the shelf lining the wall behind the prep table in the kitchen nearby the hand washing sink. **Warning**

- High Priority - Time/temperature control for safety food, other than whole meat roast, hot held at less than 135 degrees Fahrenheit. Front counter steam table: sweet plantains (129F - Hot Holding); cooked pork belly (110F - Hot Holding) fried cheese taco (90F - Hot Holding); beef flautas (110F - Hot Holding), operator discarded the products. 87107, USA. The recall was initiated after the firm discovered that it had not completed a hazard analysis for potential C. botulinum growth and toxin production in its processing, storage, and shipping of raw onions into vacuum-sealed bags. The recall is ongoing.

The recalled product is branded as Onion Yellow Med 3 Outer Rings, packaged in a 5 LB vacuum sealed, clear plastic bag. The product bears a white paper label with the following information:
- Blake's (Richmond) Onion Yellow Med 3 Outer Rings 4-5 LB PO# 047981
- Lot#787806-6883R5, 795046-3948R1, 787806-6883R3, 795046-3948R2
- Use By Date of 04/03/2024.
A total of 23 cases have been recalled.

If you have this product at home, do not consume it and return it to the store where it was purchased.

Clostridium botulinum is a bacterium that produces a potent neurotoxin. If you consume food contaminated with this bacterium, it can lead to botulism, a serious illness. Symptoms include muscle weakness and paralysis, including in the muscles used for breathing. This condition can be fatal if not treated promptly and properly. The bacterium thrives in low-oxygen environments, such as improperly canned or preserved foods.

In case you experience Botulism symptoms such as diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and stomach pain, report it now. It can help to detect & resolve outbreaks early and prevent others from being harmed, and it enables better surveillance. If symptoms persist, seek medical care.

truama and emotional/mental damage that was recived from this establishment was more than “hell” on earth. I had ate onion rings and home style potatos and only hours later was deathly ill. There kitchen does not allow you to see how the food is being handled,stored or prepared and should be a red flag with how much fried, stove top items they offer.
