Pesto, like other jarred foods, could be the source of food poisoning. In 2013, more than 50 individuals in Italy fell ill after consuming pesto that had been contaminated with Clostridium botulinum. Symptoms associated with a Clostridium botulinum infection include diarrhea, blurred vision, and difficulty swallowing.

I had their homemade wine, pesto flatbread and tater tots. I had two glasses of wine and ate majority of the food. About 6 hours later I dry heaved and vomited. Next morning I had diarrhea multiple times and stomach cramps. Not sure if it was the food or wine. | Symptoms: Nausea, Diarrhea, Vomiting, Cramps See Less

We bought a box of seasoned mussels; I don't remember the brand name, but they were butter garlic flavored. About 2-3 hours afterwards, my husband began profusely throwing up, and has been to the restroom to throw up 2 more times. We had the mussels with pesto... See More pasta, so that's the only thing that would cause his symptoms. Myself and our kids did not experience any symptoms. | Symptoms: Vomiting See Less
