Rice is a common cause of food poisoning. Uncooked rice can contain the food poisoning bacteria Bacillus cereus. The bacteria survive even after the rice is cooked, and mishandling can lead to toxin production. Onset of symptoms can be as soon as an hour after and include vomiting and diarrhea.

Stopped in for a carry out plate for lunch 12:00pm 12/1/22. I ate spicy pork and fried rice. Around 2am I woke up with the worst gas and awful stomach pains. This lasted until 4:30am when I finally vomited Violently. Now it is just awful diarrhea and nausea | Symptoms: Nausea, Diarrhea, Vomiting, Stomach Pain, Gas See Less

Food poisoning of Swiss resident of Geneva from the plant-based Red Thai curry served on SBB train No. IC520 that departed Biel at 13:16 on 30 November 2022. Three days of nausea, vomiting, diarrhea. Became so weak I could hardly get out of bed. SBB train staff... See More said curry dish was last one they had. My illness was likely the result of improper food preparation as the staff wete very busy and seemed to be running around without thinking. The vegetable curry and rice was warm when I received it, not hot. Poor service by SBB, which seems to be hit and miss as this is second time I got food posioning from a meal on train in about ten meals. | Symptoms: Nausea, Diarrhea, Vomiting See Less

Ordered a Chinese with rice, noodles, chicken dishes. About 3 hours later chronic pain in my stomach and unable to sleep it hurts so much. | Symptoms: Stomach Pain See Less

Cooked black eyes peas and rice. Cooked the Virginia sliced ham as directed. I should have known, because it smelled awful cooking by itself and in the beans. Had to leave work with stomach cramps and pain so far I’m home for 3 days. | Symptoms: Nausea, Cramps, Stomach Pain See Less

I bought my children thisl last night - a bean and cheese burrito and rice. They are it at 6 (ordered from DoorDash) and began vomiting at 2am. They are still sick with vomiting and diarrhea | Symptoms: Vomiting, Diarrhea See Less

Me and my boyfriend came here on November 25th; it’s now the 28th and my bf has been sick TWICE, the second time currently now and it seems like it was worse than the first. The first time was on the first day and we had a... See More few Miami Vices at the pool bar and a shot of two different drinks, I’m not sure what they were called. One of the shots we had right before we went up to our room (we had gotten the first shot from the pool bar earlier during the day it was a red drink; the second shot was a yellow drink from the lounge across from the Moons nightclub) … we came back to our room around 8pm and ended up falling asleep, woke up around midnight and he started to vomit; it lasted a day. Now the second time is right now as I’m typing this out. Yesterday he was feeling better and today during the day he was feeling great. We did an ATV/Zipline/Cenote excursion; they give us a little snack after we were done which I personally didn’t find much appetizing as far as the taste went (barely any flavour). It was a small rice and bean burrito, some bean Mexican lasagna or “cake” (that’s what one of the employees called it), some green bread I think it was a small tortilla with a little cheese on it and some corn. The corn didn’t taste cooked at all, it tasted like they cut off the corn from the cob and that’s it. The cake thing didn’t taste good at all, the burrito was somewhat edible and I didn’t bother with the green bread, my bf ate mine. He seemed to love his food, ate everything on his plate. We came back to the hotel after 4pm and went to sit by the pool bar. We both had a strawberry daiquiri (he added a shot or two extra of vodka in his). We then had dinner from the buffet around 6:15pm. We both felt full pretty quickly, getting the feeling that the food wasn’t going down properly in our stomachs. We got to our room and I decided to make a chamomile tea to try to give him (he didn’t drink it until right before he first vomited; also I used the bottled water, no tap). After 5-10 minutes, he started moaning and groaning and eventually belching started which led to him vomiting again. The difference this time is he’s vomiting and had to diarrhea, although the diarrhea was short/didn’t last long at all. It’s a quarter after 11pm right now and he’s currently in the bathroom again. He’ll lay down for probably 10 minutes or so and then he’s back in the bathroom again. Between the two occasions he’s been sick, I’ve bought two bottles of Pepto, 1 bottle of Electrolytes and 1 pack of Lomotil from the gift shop, so about $50USD I’ve spent on medicine. We have travel insurance and I tried to see if he’d want to see a doctor but he preferred not to. We honestly have no idea what it could be specifically but it sounds like food poisoning. At this point, he’s trying to get passed it, get all the yuck out of his system and try to get better tomorrow and hopefully he starts to feel somewhat better by the end of the day. 😪 This really sucks and for this to be our first vacation together plus this being my personal first vacation period, this experience isn’t too amazing. We liked this hotel a lot, beautiful room, beautiful view, calm and relaxing environment and a lot of the employees here are really really nice … but I personally don’t think I’ll be coming back here again after this. Especially after reading other reviews on other sites complaining of similar situations.  | Symptoms: Nausea, Diarrhea, Vomiting See Less

It was a few days ago. Maybe Nov. 25th? I bought a bag of Mahatma extra long grain raw rice from this store whereas I usually get it from Walmart. I noticed a mildewed smell to the rice as I was washing it, but when I cooked... See More it, it smelled fine. I figured it was okay, so I ate it. It made me nauseous the following days, and I lost my appetite. Seems like things are calming down now. I’d only eaten 1/4 cup of it, measured dry. The raw rice itself had a weird smell to it, so I believe it was off. Be careful when you’re buying rice. | Symptoms: Nausea, Loss of Appetite See Less

Had the chicken wild rice soup and a comet candy, about an hour or so after eating, started to get nauseous and a little dizzy. Left work to go lay down, vomited a bunch shortly after getting home. No fever or any other symptoms of any other illness. | Symptoms: Nausea, Diarrhea, Vomiting, Dizziness See Less

An hour after eating isn't food poisoning... Very rare to not spike a fever as well.
