Co-op

Updated:

An outbreak of Shiga toxin-producing E. coli O157:H7 has been linked to PCC Community Markets – West Seattle Co-op in Seattle, with five reported cases and one hospitalization. The outbreak appears to be over, but the investigation is ongoing.

The outbreak, which occurred between February 14 and … See More
February 28, 2024, is associated with store-made guacamole purchased from the co-op on February 10, 2024. All five individuals affected exhibited symptoms of Shiga toxin-producing E. coli.

Disease Investigators conducted in-depth interviews with the affected individuals and Environmental Health Investigators visited the grocery on March 15, 2024. Laboratory testing confirmed four of the five cases as positive for E. coli O157:H7, with three of these cases genetically matching, indicating a common source of infection.

In case you are experiencing E. coli symptoms such as watery diarrhea (often bloody), vomiting; stomach cramps; and mild fever, it is important to report it. It can help to detect & resolve outbreaks early and prevent others from being harmed, and it enables better surveillance. If symptoms persist, seek medical care.

I haven’t had their quac in a while but a week or two ago I purchased a PCC Branded Blueberry Scone and halfway through kept smelling a sour odor until I realized the scone smelled like sour milk. I didn’t get sick or anything so didn’t report it. This was at WS PCC.

I drove an hour to Hendersonville to get some grains and legumes. I bought a vegan yoga bar from their deli. I ate it on the way home. Approximately 1 hour after eating it I threw up for about 30 minutes straight. I can't even remember the … See More
last time I threw up and haven't even been sick in over a decade. I called the manager twice on Monday, the day after, and left messages explaining my concerns. I never received a call back. I'm wondering if some of the other snacks I got from the deli there are safe. This food costs a lot of money but I'm scared to eat any of it now. I can only imagine that it was cross contaminated with pathogens from their meat. I will probably never eat from their deli again. I love this place though they do have great produce so I will definitely continue going for my grains, greens, legumes, and potatoes. But that deli area I'm going to stay away from! To follow up on this, today is Wednesday so it's been 3 days now. My wife who ate the same thing as me on Sunday with the exception of the one item that caused me food poisoning did not get sick. And I've not had any symptoms since. So this definitely seems to have been food poisoning from that deli.  | Symptoms: Vomiting
