An outbreak of Salmonella has affected 11 care residents at Points West Living in Red Deer, Alberta, no one has been hospitalized and no deaths were reported. The outbreak was first detected on March 25 and Alberta Health Services (AHS) is working with the facility to limit... See More the spread. AHS has declared that no other facilities in the Central Zone are dealing with an outbreak. The source of the infection is still unknown.

In response to the outbreak, AHS has ordered testing of residents and staff and has been onsite at Points West to inspect the kitchen, review food handling and hand hygiene practices, and provide recommendations for enhanced cleaning. As it is possible for Salmonella to spread person-to-person, AHS is emphasizing the importance of good hand hygiene to prevent further spread. Salmonella infection can vary in severity and the elderly and those with weaker immune systems are at a higher risk.

My 2 kids would get cramps followed by diarrhea once about every other day for a couple months until I discovered it was this juice causing it. They'd drink 6-8oz every morning. The problem was discovered when the establishment notified FSIS that a customer observed pistachio nut in ready-to-eat regular mortadella deli meat product during slicing.

FSIS is concerned that some products may be in delis and foodservice locations refrigerators and freezers. Delis and food service locations are urged not to serve these products. Consumers who have purchased these products and have an allergy to pistachios, should not consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
