It is possible to get food poisoning from eating plant based meat such as Impossible burgers, and Impossible meats. Heme, or soy leghemoglobin, is the signature plant blood ingredient & the FDA authorized it as a color additive. Nausea and diarrhea are the most commonly reported symptoms from Impossible Burger.

I just consumed the product yesterday! Approximately two hours later I experienced severe nausea that is on and off until today. It was at a Starbucks in CA as well.

Another person at our table, a vegetarian, explicitly ordered an impossible burger, was given what the waiter STATED to be an impossible burger, and then it turned out to be a beef burger. Service also took forever, and they messed up the order of a 3rd person at our table as well. In essence, they got one order wrong, then fed beef to a vegetarian, and to top it all off gave me food poisoning 3 DAYS before my college graduation. I have been ill from impossible burger and impossible meat. Food poisoning like symptoms, and then bloated for a couple of days more.

The first time I had an Impossible Burger, I was SOOO sick, my stomach felt like it would explode from bloating, but I didn't know the cause. I ended up being taken to the ER by ambulance and having projectile vomiting in the ambulance. The ER dr just said I had gastritis, but didn't link it to the burger. So about 4 months later, I ventured to eat another one. This time I did not have vomiting, but again the SEVERE, painful bloating and nausea. I was sure it was the burger this time, because I have never been allergic to any other food in my life. I don't have any reaction like this to any other form of veggie burger (not even Beyond, which is another "almost like real meat" burger). The only thing I can think is that I am allergic to the heme they use, because there is nothing else in it that I have ever been allergic to. To Impossible's credit, when I brought it to their attention they had their staff doctor call me to thoroughly interview me about my allergy history etc., so they did take it very seriously.
