I've gotten sick a couple times now from Dollar General foods - or at least right after eating dollar General foods ... I won't say where but on the west coast ... Once after frozen broccoli and once after summer sausage that just didn't smell or taste right. I think they may let frozen foods sit and thaw out then re-freeze them - you can tell by the taste, and that affects the expiration dates.
