Food Safety Report: Taco Bell, 4857 East McKinley Avenue, Fresno, CA, USA

Statement Regarding Incident at Taco Bell – 4857 E McKinley Ave, Fresno, CA

This was my first time ever filing a food-related complaint. I’ve had accidents happen in restaurants before — once, a waitress accidentally spilled hot soup on me, causing first-degree burns. I understood it was unintentional. But what happened at this Taco Bell was different. I ordered a soft taco and a crunchy burrito — a decision I would soon regret.

Shortly after eating, I developed a severe gastrointestinal infection. Based on my symptoms and medical evaluation, it became clear that I had been exposed to fecal contamination. I returned to the location to record a video warning others not to eat there. I even showed one of the customers my stool test kit from my doctor. Despite this, he went inside and told the cashier that I was outside telling people not to eat there.

Soon after, three women exited the building. One stood near the entrance, another watched from a car, and the third approached my vehicle. She began speaking to me in a way that felt more like a message than a conversation. She told me this was “karma” and made comments about past drug use — things that felt personal and inappropriate. I asked her if she had done something to my food on purpose. She didn’t answer directly but kept repeating that “karma is a bitch.” She even tried to provoke me into fighting her. I refused.

As I was leaving, one of the other women — dressed in regular clothes, with her hair in a bun and wearing work pants and shoes — approached me. She looked nervous and asked what was going on. I started to explain, but then realized she also worked there. She returned inside shortly after.

Medically, my symptoms were severe. I lost the ability to feel the urge to have a bowel movement, even when stool was present at the exit. The ER confirmed this. My stool became fermented and only passed with extreme effort and medication. I also developed a swollen lymph node and vertigo, which doctors confirmed was not ear-related — indicating that a pathogen had entered my body orally.

The woman who confronted me only backed off after I told her I had contacted Taco Bell’s corporate office and the Fresno County Health Department. Even then, she continued trying to provoke me. The way she spoke — about karma and consequences — felt targeted, as if she knew something. It didn’t feel like a random encounter.

I’m really sorry you went through this. I wanted to share that I also got sick after eating at this same Taco Bell location. My incident happened on October 20th. I ordered a soft taco and a crunchy burrito, and the food looked wet when I opened it. I ended up with vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, and stomach pain. I still have my electronic bank receipt from that day.

Seeing your report helped me realize I wasn’t the only one who had an issue at this address. I hope you’re feeling better now.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I wanted to ask if you had any symptoms that lasted longer than the initial illness. Did you or anyone in your family develop any ongoing issues afterward, like stomach problems, allergies that come and go, or symptoms that stayed over time? I’m trying to understand if others had longer-term effects from this location. Hope you’re doing better now.
