Dole Fresh Vegetables Inc. Salads - recalled due to Listeria monocytogenes

United States

Dole Fresh Vegetables Announces a Voluntary Precautionary Recall of all Dole-branded and private label packaged salads processed at its Bessemer City, NC and Yuma, AZ processing facilities due to a possible health risk from Listeria monocytogenes.

Dole Fresh Vegetables, Inc.,is voluntarily recalling from the market all Dole-branded and private label packaged salads processed at its Bessemer City, NC and its Yuma, AZ production facilities due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes and is also temporarily suspending operations at both facilities to conduct an extensive cleaning and sanitation protocol.

Products subject to the voluntary recall are identified by a product lot code beginning with the either the letter “N” or “Y” in the upper right-hand corner of the package (see examples in the image) and will have a “Best if Used By” date between November 30, 2021, and January 8, 2022.

Consumers who still have any of these products in their refrigerators are urged not to consume the product and to discard it immediately. The decision to suspend operations and recall all products from these facilities was made after analyzing the strain of Listeria monocytogenes isolated in a single package of Dole-branded Garden Salad produced in the Bessemer City facility and a single package of shredded iceberg lettuce produced in the Yuma, AZ facility. Both of those items were randomly sampled by the state of Georgia and the state of Michigan, respectively, and were a genetic match with a strain of Listeria monocytogenes which FDA and CDC believe is responsible for sixteen illnesses since 2014.

Listing of products subject to each of these recalls is in the link below.

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

Recalled salad items from the Bessemer City facility were distributed in the states of AL, CT, FL, GA, KY, LA, MA, MD, MI, MS, NC, NY, OH, PA, SC, TN, and VA. Recalled salad items from the Yuma facility were distributed in the states of AL, AZ, CT, FL, IA, IL, IN, KY, LA, MA, MI, MN, MS, NC, ND, NY, OH, PA, SC, TN, TX, VA, and WI. No products produced from Dole facilities in Springfield, OH (production/lot codes beginning with “W”) or Soledad, CA (production/lot codes beginning with “B”) are included in these voluntary recalls. In addition, no other Dole products, including “ready-to-eat” salad products, fresh fruit, and field-packed fresh vegetables, are part of these voluntary recalls and are safe to consume.

Dole retailers have been advised to check store shelves and warehouse inventories to confirm that no recalled product is available for purchase by consumers.

Feb 21 Bacon Garlic Burgers from Sonic Drive In Sick

On Wednesday my oldest and I went to a fast food drive up and each got a burger and some tots.  We got a chicken sandwich and fries for my youngest kiddo (knock on wood, youngest is... See More still asymptomatic) Within 45 or so minutes of eating my oldest and I felt queasy and rumbling in our stomachs. In about 11/2-2 hrs, my oldest puked at work and came home.  The first vomit was food/then green twice/and then bile color. Diarrhea accompanied. At 9:30, I took them to the local ER as they could not stop vomiting.  They were treated for acute vomiting/acute diarrhea.  They took urine and blood samples.  They gave them Zofran and pain meds and sent us home. Kiddo continued to vomit several more times and the next day was just diarrhea.  On Friday, I vomited and started non stop diarrhea. We have terrible gut pain and gas.  We drank Gatorade, stayed hydrated, ate crackers and applesauce when we were able and yesterday we thought we were getting better. No one had any symptoms. We had disinfected as we went along to try to ensure no spread to youngest kid.  This evening we are nauseated and I have the diarrhea back.  We both took Zofran.  We know we have something.  We ate nothing that day other than the burger meal.  We had an appt with primary care on Monday and are awaiting stool test results. | Symptoms: Diarrhea, Nausea, Vomiting, Other, Gas, Bile See Less

Colonna Brothers of North Bergen, NJ is recalling its 1.5oz Marcum Ground Cinnamon & 2.25oz Supreme Tradition Ground Cinnamon because of a possible health risk due to elevated lead levels. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with these products. The Cinnamon was distributed nationwide... See More through retail stores and mail order.

Short term exposures to very low levels of lead may not elicit any symptoms. It is possible that increased blood lead levels may be the only apparent sign of lead exposure. Additional signs and symptoms of lead exposure are more likely with acute exposure to higher levels of lead or chronic exposure to lead. The effects depend upon the amount and duration of lead exposure and age/ body weight. If a child is exposed to enough lead for a protracted period of time (e.g., weeks to months) permanent damage to the central nervous system may occur. This can result in learning disorders, developmental defects, and other long-term health problems. For adults, chronic lead exposure is associated with kidney dysfunction, hypertension, and neurocognitive effects.

The products come in a clear plastic jar labeled with either “Marcum Cinnamon Ground 1.5oz” or “Supreme Tradition Ground Cinnamon 2.25oz”. Only the following lot codes (found on the jar above the label - below the cap) were affected:

Product: 1.5oz Marcum Ground Cinnamon, Best By:10/16/25 10DB

Product: 2.25oz Supreme Tradition Ground Cinnamon, Best By:09/22/2025 09E20

The recall was the result of a targeted sampling program of discount brands by the FDA, following heightened sensitivity around Cinnamon. Colonna Brothers is participating in this recall voluntarily as requested by the FDA. Colonna Brother’s has not violated any Federal guidelines/legislation/laws regarding levels of lead in Cinnamon/Spice nor any protocols requiring testing for heavy metals. The FDA is stating that the lot codes above contain elevated levels of lead that the FDA deems a potential health risk.

Colonna Brothers has voluntarily ceased the production and distribution of all Cinnamon.

Consumers who have purchased the Supreme Tradition Ground Cinnamon or Marcum Ground Cinnamon, with the lot codes listed above, can return it to the store for a full refund. Anyone concerned they may have been exposed to lead, should contact their healthcare provider to report their symptoms.

If you are experiencing symptoms after eating this product it is important to report it. It can help to detect & resolve outbreaks early and prevent others from being harmed, and it enables better surveillance. If symptoms persist seek medical attention.

The diarrhea may have been the result of the charcoal/laxative doing its job. She is fine now, AlhamduleAllah. Please note that we have been happy patrons of this restaurant for years with no issues. I will be calling them now to report the same. Hopefully this was an isolated incident and they will conduct proper an investigation and take necessary corrective measures to insure this doesn’t happen again.
