The FDA is currently investigating a new outbreak of Cyclosporiasis. As of August 03, 2022, a total of 06 people infected with Cyclospora have been reported. No specific product has been linked to this investigation yet. This investigation is ongoing.

According to FDA, Cyclospora is generally transmitted... See More when infected feces contaminate food or water. It’s unlikely to be transmitted directly from person to person because the Cyclospora parasite needs time (days to weeks) after being passed in a bowel movement to become infectious for another person.

Some FDA recommendations to prevent Cyclosporiasis:
- Wash the inside walls and shelves of the refrigerator, cutting boards and countertops; then sanitize them with a solution of one tablespoon of chlorine bleach to one gallon of hot water; dry with a clean cloth or paper towel that has not been previously used.
- Wash hands with warm water and soap for at least 20 seconds before and after handling food.
- Wipe up spills in the refrigerator immediately and clean the refrigerator regularly.
- Always wash hands with hot, soapy water following the cleaning and sanitization process.
- Persons who think they might have become ill from eating potentially contaminated foods should consult their health care provider.

In case you are experiencing Cyclospora symptoms such as watery diarrhea (most common), cramping, bloating, increased gas, nausea, fatigue, and possibly vomiting and low-grade fever, it is important to report it. It can help to detect & resolve outbreaks early and prevent others from being harmed, and it enables better surveillance. If symptoms persist, seek medical care.

The Washington State Department of Health (DOH) is warning people to avoid eating oysters and clams harvested from Buck Bay on Orcas Island in San Juan County on July 26-27, following the detection of high levels of Paralytic Shellfish Poison (PSP) in the shellfish. The shellfish were... See More sold directly to consumers from Buck Bay Shellfish Farm retail market and restaurant on the island. As of July 27, there have been no reports of illness associated with these products.

DOH detected the PSP through biotoxin monitoring – the shellfish tested had PSP levels nearly 4 times the allowable level for harvest. Buck Bay Growing Area is closed until further notice.

According to DOH, PSP symptoms can occur within minutes to a few hours of consuming contaminated shellfish. Death from PSP has occurred in less than 30 minutes. Symptoms can include:
- Tingling and numbness of the lips, tongue, fingers, and toes.
- Nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.
- Loss of coordination, difficulty speaking and swallowing, and total muscular paralysis with respiratory arrest (in severe cases).

If you are experiencing symptoms after eating these products it is important to report it. It can help to detect & resolve outbreaks early and prevent others from being harmed, and it enables better surveillance. If you have mild symptoms, call your health care provider right away. If symptoms are severe, call 911 or go to the emergency room immediately.

I was at this location last Sunday and noticed some of the handles of the scoops they were using to put the toppings on had fallen into the food. They should be replaced when this happens. If someone did not wash their hands, touched the scoop and then it mixed with the food this is how food borne illness happens. I would call the manager and let them know your experience.
