The Toe River Health District (TRHD) has identified a foodborne illness outbreak linked to El Ranchero, a restaurant in Spruce Pine, North Carolina. Six individuals, four from Mitchell County and two from Yancey County, have been diagnosed with Salmonella, with some also contracting Campylobacter.The outbreak was discovered after TRHD was notified of two confirmed Salmonella cases last week. An investigation revealed the restaurant as the common source. Health officials conducted inspections and follow-up visits to assess sanitary conditions and are collaborating with the restaurant to safeguard public health.
The issue was uncovered when TRHD received reports of Salmonella infections. Subsequent investigations linked the cases to El Ranchero. Health officials are continuing to monitor the situation and are reaching out to individuals who may have been exposed.
