Iwaspoisoned Presents at North Carolina's Annual Environmental Health Symposium

Aug 2, 2024

We attended and presented at North Carolina's 2024 Environmental Health Symposium in New Bern from July 25th to 26th. Organized by the North Carolina Environmental Health State of Practice Committee (NCEHSOP), the event included representatives from NCEHSOP, the NC Department of Health and Human Services (NC DHHS), and Environmental Health Specialists. We had a wonderful two days: we met the NCEHSOP team, networked with symposium attendees, and listened to many keynote speakers covering topics such as "Dealing with Public Regulatory Agencies – A Coastal Perspective", "Translating NASA Earth Observations into Actionable Information", " Forty years finding lead in applesauce, rats in toilets, squatters living in crawl spaces, and odd odors in the air", and more.

NCEHSOP and NC DHHS oversee the health and safety of over 10 million residents. They are very dedicated and focused on the innovation and education of their workforce, as well as the care of their community and residents. Our presentation, "Foodborne Illness and Crowdsourced Data: Opportunities, Challenges, and an Introduction to Iwaspoisoned.com," discussed the role of crowdsourced data in food safety. We had a great time speaking and answering questions. We also had a vendor booth set up in the main lobby, where we had the opportunity to speak one-on-one with members of North Carolina's Environemntal Health teams discussing more in depth on what we do and how they can get involved! We enjoyed meeting new faces and reconnecting with old ones—we absolutely hope to be back at their yearly symposium next year.
