Norovirus Outbreak on Princess Cruise Ship Affects Dozens

3 days ago source foxbusiness.com business

Outbreak

100 East Swinford Street, Los Angeles, 90731 California, United States

Princess Cruises' Coral Princess ship has experienced a Norovirus outbreak, affecting dozens of passengers and crew members during its voyage from Singapore to Los Angeles, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The outbreak was reported to the CDC's Vessel Sanitation Program on November 9th, with the CDC confirming the incident on Thursday. Out of the 1,822 passengers on board, 55 reported being ill, along with 15 of the 907 crew members. The Coral Princess departed from Singapore on October 17th, making eight stops in Asia before arriving in Hawaii on November 10th.

The CDC stated that the reported cases are the total for the entire voyage and do not indicate that all people were sick simultaneously. In response to the outbreak, Princess Cruises has increased cleaning and disinfection procedures and collected stool specimens from those affected for testing.

Those infected with Norovirus face a risk of dehydration and are advised to drink plenty of fluids for recovery. Considering that hand sanitizer does NOT work against this virus, it is important to wash your hands with soap frequently. Use bleach to clean and disinfect surfaces.

Norovirus - Norovirus is very contagious and is easily transmitted from person to person most through the oral/fecal route. Considering that hand sanitizer does NOT work against this virus, it is important to wash your hands with soap frequently. Use bleach to clean and disinfect surfaces.

In case you experience Norovirus symptoms, such as vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, and nausea, report it now. It can help to detect & resolve outbreaks early and prevent others from being harmed, and it enables better surveillance. If symptoms persist, seek medical care.
