Ferndown Middle School in Dorset has temporarily closed due to a suspected norovirus outbreak, affecting both staff and students. The outbreak has led to the postponement of SATs for Year 6 pupils. The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) is assisting the school in managing the situation to prevent further infections.The school, which closed early for the weekend, plans to reschedule the SATs before May 21. The UKHSA is providing guidance to the school to minimize the risk of ongoing transmission of the virus.
The outbreak was identified after several staff and students reported symptoms consistent with norovirus, including diarrhoea and vomiting. In response, the school will undergo a thorough cleaning while it remains closed.
