In a recent outbreak on the Holland America Line ship Eurodam, 79 passengers and 9 crew members have fallen ill with norovirus. The cruise, which left from Florida in February 19th, 2025, reported the outbreak during its voyage (Voyage number: EU250219)The Eurodam, carrying 2,057 passengers and 834 crew members, reported the outbreak to the Vessel Sanitation Program (VSP) on February 23, 2025. The predominant symptoms among the affected individuals were diarrhea and vomiting, indicative of the norovirus. The percentage of passengers who reported being ill was 3.8%, while 1.1% of the crew also reported sickness.
The outbreak was discovered when passengers and crew reported their symptoms to the medical center onboard. This early detection allowed for immediate steps to be taken to limit the spread of the illness. In response, Holland America Line increased cleaning and disinfection procedures according to their outbreak prevention and response plan. Stool specimens were collected from those suffering from gastrointestinal illness for testing, and those who were ill were isolated. The VSP is remotely monitoring the situation, including reviewing the ship's outbreak response and sanitation procedures.
