Norovirus Outbreak Linked to McDonald's in Austria, 50 People Affected

5 months ago source breakinglatest.news business

Outbreak

46 Waidhofner Straße, Amstetten, 3300 Niederösterreich, Austria

A Norovirus outbreak has been reported in Austria, linked to a McDonald's branch in Amstetten-Greinsfurth. The district administration has confirmed 50 cases of the illness, with many individuals requiring hospital treatment for symptoms such as nausea and vomiting. The outbreak was discovered after a sudden increase in hospital admissions for nausea and vomiting. Upon investigation, a common link was found - all patients had visited the same McDonald's branch. Noroviruses are highly contagious and can cause stomach infections. They can be transmitted through direct contact with an infected person, contaminated objects, or through consumption of contaminated food or drinks. Norovirus is very contagious and is easily transmitted from person to person most through the oral/fecal route.

The individuals affected had visited the McDonald's branch prior to falling ill. A preliminary investigation by the authorities confirmed the presence of noroviruses, which are known to spread directly from person to person. Company spokesperson Wilhelm Baldia stated that potential causes related to hygiene or food handling within the fast-food restaurant have been ruled out.

Considering that hand sanitizer does NOT work against this virus, it is important to wash your hands with soap frequently. Use bleach to clean and disinfect surfaces.

In case you experience Norovirus symptoms, such as vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, and nausea, report it now. It can help to detect & resolve outbreaks early and prevent others from being harmed, and it enables better surveillance. If symptoms persist, seek medical care
