8 months ago source fda.gov

Recall notice

United States

Rizo-López Foods, Inc. (“RLF”) is voluntarily recalling its dairy products listed below because they have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The recalled products were distributed nationwide in the USA by RLF and through distributors. Products also were sold at retail deli counters including, but not limited to, El Super, Cardenas Market, Northgate Gonzalez, Superior Groceries, El Rancho, Vallarta, Food City, La Michoacana, and Numero Uno Markets. Based on information shared by the CDC and FDA, RLF may be a potential source of illness in an ongoing nationwide Listeria monocytogenes outbreak.

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

The recalled products include cheese, yogurt, and sour cream sold under the brand names Tio Francisco, Don Francisco, Rizo Bros, Rio Grande, Food City, El Huache, La Ordena, San Carlos, Campesino, Santa Maria, Dos Ranchitos, Casa Cardenas, and 365 Whole Foods Market. Representative images of the recalled products are provided below.

This recall is being carried out with the knowledge of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The list of the recalled products with the brand name, size, UPC, and sell-by dates is provided in the link below.

In case you are experiencing Listeria monocytogenes symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea, it is important to report it. It can help to detect & resolve outbreaks early and prevent others from being harmed, and it enables better surveillance. If symptoms persist, seek medical care.

Brand name: Rizo Brothers California Creamery
Product recalled: Cheese, Yogurt, Sour cream

The original email said Cotija Cheese and Queso Fresco, but the photos for 365 Brand are ricotta. Cotija Cheese, Queso Fresco and Oaxaca by 365 Brand does exist. Wondering if ricotta is a concern, or if the pictures are wrong?

Hi, thanks for bringing this to our attention. While Cotija Cheese and Queso Fresco are directly linked to the Listeria outbreak according to the CDC/FDA investigation; the manufacturer, Rizo Foods, decided to recall all of their dairy products while the investigation is ongoing which include cheese, yogurt, and sour cream sold under several brand names. Regarding the 365 Whole Foods Market ricotta, yes, that is part of the recalled products, specifically: - 365 Whole Foods Market Ricotta Part Skim (15 oz). UPC: 9-94824-63052. All dates through 04/02/2024 - 365 Whole Foods Market Ricotta Whole Milk(15 oz). UPC: 9-94824-96245. All dates through 04/02/2024
