Initially suspected to be norovirus, further testing confirmed the presence of Salmonella, a foodborne bacteria. The health department has implemented treatment protocols focusing on hydration and, for high-risk patients, antibiotics. The source of the outbreak is under investigation, with officials working to identify potential contamination sources.
The issue was discovered through routine testing and inspections conducted by the Broome County Health Department and the New York State Department of Health.
