As a consequence of a recall initiated by a cheese supplier, Rizo-Lopez Foods, Inc., Fresh Express is voluntarily recalling two salad kits with condiment packs that contain the recalled cheese, which may pose a potential health risk from Listeria monocytogenes. The kits being recalled are Fresh Express Salsa! Ensalada Salad Kit and Marketside Southwest Chopped Salad Kit with Use-By Dates ranging from January 6 through February 20, 2024, and include condiment packs with Use-By Dates ranging from February 28 through April 4, 2024. No other Fresh Express salads or salad kits or condiment packs containing cheese are included in this recall.

Consumers who may have the recalled salad kits should discard them immediately and not eat them. Consumers who may have kept the condiment packs from the recalled salad kits for possible later use should also discard them immediately and not consume the contents. Refunds are also available at point of sale

The safety of Fresh Express lettuces and leafy greens are not a factor in this recall and no illnesses have been reported to date in connection with these products. The Andalusian Government's Health and Consumer Affairs department is investigating a norovirus outbreak at CEIP Santiago Ramón y Cajal school in El Ejido, Almeria, Spain. Approximately 40 individuals have been affected by the virus.

The outbreak, which was first detected on January 30, has primarily resulted in... See More mild symptoms among those infected, including vomiting and diarrhea. Despite the outbreak, no hospital admissions have been necessary, according to Health department sources. The majority of those affected are children associated with the school.

The discovery of the outbreak came about through public health investigations following reports of vomiting and diarrhea. The school's canteen has continued to operate normally, in line with medical inspection guidelines. The Health and Consumer Affairs department is currently conducting further investigations and inspections to manage the situation.

Norovirus is very contagious and is easily transmitted from person to person most through the oral/fecal route. Considering that hand sanitizer does NOT work against this virus, it is important to wash your hands with soap frequently. Use bleach to clean and disinfect surfaces.
