FSANZ announced the recall of Eumarrah Poppy Seeds by Eumarrah Pty Ltd because of the potential presence of a chemical (thebaine) due to unsafe poppy seeds entering the food supply. These products were sold in TAS.
The recalled product is Eumarrah Poppy Seeds sold as:
- Eumarrah Poppy Seeds 250g, Best Before dates 7.10.2023 & 14.10.2023. This product has been available for sale at independent food retailers including IGA & direct from Eumarrah stores in TAS.
- Eumarrah Poppy Seeds, 15kg brown or white bag, Batch number PO 024316. This product has been available for sale since 2 September 2022 from Grain Grocer in Launceston & Wholesome House in Mowbray.
- Eumarrah Poppy Seeds, Various weights sold in bulk (scoop and buy), these poppy seeds have also been displayed unpackaged and available for sale since 2 September 2022 from Eumarrah stores in Hobart and Launceston, Grain Grocer in Launceston, Huon Valley Health Food Pharmacy and Naturopathica in Huonville, Nuts About Health in Wynyard & Wholesome House in Mowbray.
Food products containing thebaine may cause illness if consumed. Severe poisoning soon after ingestion has occurred in some people who have consumed large amounts of poppy seeds.
Consumers should not eat these products and should return to the place of purchase for a full refund and safe disposal.

A recall was not requested because... See More the products are no longer available for purchase. These products were sold at retail locations in California and through online sales. There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products.
The recalled product is:
- 1-lb. vacuum-packed packages containing “Fried Fish Cutlet.” They were produced from July 2022 to September 2022 and have a shelf life of two years. They do not bear the establishment number or a USDA mark of inspection.
FSIS discovered the problem when it was conducting surveillance at an online retailer and found FSIS-regulated products without a USDA mark of inspection.
FSIS is concerned that some products may be in consumers’ freezers. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
