Peyac, a French food company, has issued a massive recall of its Label Rouge Whole Chickens due to fears of Listeria contamination. The product was distributed across France through various outlets including Carrefour, Les 5 fermes, Auchan, Leclerc, Intermarché, Système U, Les Jardins du Mesnil, and L'Atelier Boucherie.The recalled product is the Label Rouge Whole Chicken under the brand Peyac. The recall affects multiple batches with the GTIN 3283440004839 and 3283440330693, specifically lot 2074055257 with best before dates from 01/02/2024 to 06/02/2024, and lot 2074055283 with best before dates from 02/02/2024 to 04/02/2024. The product was sold from 22/01/2024 to 06/02/2024.
The issue was discovered due to the presence of Listeria monocytogenes, the bacteria responsible for causing listeriosis. The risk is further compounded if the product's use-by date has been exceeded.
