We bought a fruit basket that contained a cantaloup from a local organization. That's on October 25th. We served it to our 20 months old son, he loved it and ate the entire thing in two days. That same weekend he started to experience intermittent fever, and... See More Halloween the Diahrea started. Two days after there was blood in his stool. After a call to 811 (health line) we went straight to the emergency. There we waited 10 hours and he kept getting worse. He was on intravenous treatment for 10 days. Followed by 10 days of oral mega doses (8ml/3 times a day) for an additional 10 days. It was a hard time, and he still has so post traumatic reactions (doesn't like to be touched where the catheter was), and his digestion is not back to it's former state. We are simple thankful that it was caught in time. The fever started I bought a fruit basket on October 25. This one contained a cantaloupe. We cut it and served it to our 20-month-old son, who ate it over two days. Two days later, he started to have an interminent fever, and then diarrhea occurred. At first he seemed to keep his spirits up but then there was blood in his stool. From that moment on we were in the hospital and for 1 week I had to be on intravenous treatment. The battery was in his blood, he had septicemia. Once these were completed, he was prescribed a mega dose of antibiotic (8ml 3 times a day) for an additional 10 days. He was completely traumatized, so were we. His intestinal flora has not fully recovered, and he still has some post-traumatic reactions. SOFIA PRODUCE, LLC which does business under the name “Trufresh” (“Trufresh”) has expanded its recall of all sizes of fresh cantaloupes packaged in cardboard containers labeled with the “Malichita” label, and also labeled with the “Rudy” label to include all cantaloupes sold between the dates of October... See More 10, 2023 and November 3, 2023, because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. The cantaloupes were distributed directly to the following States in the United States: Arizona, California, Connecticut, Maryland, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Utah, Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, Texas, Florida and Canada. Trufresh has been advised that there are 97 illnesses reported to date that have been associated with this strain of Salmonella.
Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
The cantaloupes would have reached consumers through retail produce markets which may be located in states other than those listed above.
The Malichita brand cantaloupes are packaged in cardboard containers bearing the “Malichita” label (picture attached). The Malichita brand cantaloupes also have an individual PLU sticker placed upon each cantaloupe in the form of the attached picture. As shown in the picture, the PLU sticker has a top half which is white which has the word “Malichita” written in script in black letters. The bottom of the PLU sticker is black and has the number “4050” prominently displayed in white letters together with the words “Product of Mexico/produit du Mexique”. This label will identify individual Malichita cantaloupes purchased by consumers.
The Rudy brand cantaloupes are packaged in cardboard containers bearing the “Rudy” label (picture attached). The Rudy brand cantaloupes also have an individual PLU sticker placed upon each cantaloupe in the form of the attached picture. As shown in the picture, the PLU sticker 4050 This label will identify individual Rudy cantaloupes purchased by consumers.
Trufresh began this recall after the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) determined that Malichita cantaloupes have possible Salmonella contamination. The CFIA’s original recall was for possible Salmonella contamination of cantaloupes packaged with the same Malichita label and the same PLU sold to Fruits et Légumes Gaétan Bono. Trufresh is expanding the recall to encompass all cantaloupes under the Malichita brand and also the Rudy brand as a precautionary step.
Consumers should check if they have recalled products; and do not consume, serve, use, sell, or distribute recalled products.
Recalled products should be returned to the location where they were purchased.
Consumers who are unsure if they have purchased the recalled product are advised to contact their retailer. If you think you became sick from consuming a recalled product, contact your healthcare provider.

I had a brisket sandwich I ate and also purchased a pulled pork sandwich which I did not eat. at Buc-ee's on the day after Thanksgiving in 2023 at approx 10:20 pm. However, upon examining the sandwiches on the counter, I noticed that all of them had exceeded their hourly sell-by time. Concerned about the freshness, I inquired with the person behind the counter. She retrieved one from a holding area under the counter. Despite this, shortly after continuing my drive home, I began to feel nauseous. Upon arriving home around 2 am, I decided to sleep it off. The next morning, I experienced vomiting, confirming that it was indeed the brisket that had caused my discomfort. This incident marked the second time I have not felt well after consuming food from Buc-ee's, but it was the first time I experienced symptoms like vomiting. Regrettably, I was unwell for approximately 32 hours following my visit to Buc-ee's. Given these experiences, I have decided not to consume anything from Buc-ee's in the future. Voluntarily recalled items include the specific products, lot codes, and expiration dates in a link below or images attached. No other products are affected.
According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), several illnesses have been reported to date in connection with the whole cantaloupe recalled by Sofia Produce, LLC dba Trufresh, however, as of November 29, no illnesses have been confirmed to be associated with GHGA products.
