Costco announced the recall of Safeway Fresh Foods Organic Butternut Squash by their supplier Safeway Fresh Foods due to E. coli O45 being detected in a product sample during routine testing. This product was sold at Costco locations in Washington D.C., Maryland (Gaithersburg, Frederick, Columbia, Wheaton, and Owings Mills), Pennsylvania (Robinson and Homestead), and Virginia (Fairfax, Sterling, Pentagon City, Leesburg, and Charlottesville).

The recalled product is:
- Safeway Fresh Foods Organic Butternut Squash Fresh Cut, 2lbs (Item #20522), date code: 09/19/2023, sold between 9/7/2023 and 9/15/2023.
