“Me and my family got carry-out on Saturday, January 25, 2020. 5 of us got chicken sandwiches (2 spicy, 3 classic) and 3 got chicken legs and fries. The 2 spicy sandwiches came with onion rings and red beans and rice as sides. This was the only meal that we... shared together that everyone ate in weeks! On Sunday morning, my 8-year-old daughter woke up very sick. She refused to eat breakfast and vomited before she could even try. I got very nauseous shortly after, followed by my 13-year-old niece. She started to vomit shortly after the nausea hit. My husband and sister felt nauseous soon after, followed by my 6-year-old daughter, who started vomiting right after lunch. We attempted to have dinner, but so many people were sick, the effort was futile. My 6-year-old niece vomited her lunch and went to bed early, my husband vomited his dinner right after eating it, my sister went to bed nauseous and weak, and all the kids were done as well. I started vomiting after heading to bed for the night and my brother-in-law was sick by Monday morning. The only person in the house who did not get sick was my almost 20-month-old son who did not eat there! ”
“We ate there. The only items we did not share are the wagyu strip steak and the clam chowder. One of these gave him food poisoning. My husband and I ate dinner. We shared wines, a shrimp appetizer, sauteed spinach and bread. He ate a very small piece of my... sea bass. Only he got sick. We had a Wednesday, January 29th @ 6pm reservation. At 3am the next morning, the fireworks began. ”
“My daughter ate a Torino’s square pizza around 3/4 pm and by 7 PM she was complaining of stomach pains, having to vomit & use the restroom every 20 minutes. This is the third time this has happened to her. ”
“My daughter and I ate there yesterday which was Saturday the 25th We both had burger and sweet potato fries . 1 hour after eating there we both started to feel sick. I threw up seven times ,severe stomach pain from both of us and diarrhea . today is Sunday... the 26th still have severe nausea and diarrhea terrible stomach pain still , all day. ”
“I ordered the 8 piece family meal and some popcorn chicken. My kids only ate the fries & my wife ate one chicken wing. I however ate 2 pieces of chicken breast with gravy. About 4 hours later I found myself violently ill with uncontrollable liquid diarrhea, and vomiting. It... started from 11:00pm and kept me awake until about 4:30am. The symptoms are still present this morning & im getting really scared. I will call the public health nurse & ask what I should do. ”
“Food poisoning I ordered one fish biriyani on saturday night 9.30. Symptoms started at night. I woke up two time at night due to thirst and at morning i was very tired. But i decided to eat breakfast. But after breakfast the symtoms got worse and i vomited and little... fever also started. After that my body was rejecting everything even plain water for almost one day. Now i started recovering after two days. ”
“There is some confusion surrounding the current Coronavirus (called 2019-NocV) outbreak that began in December 2019 and whether you can get it through food. Here is some information:
What is Coronavirus?
Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses found in both animals and humans. Past outbreaks include Middle East Respiratory... Syndrome (MERS) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS). The current novel Coronavirus (a new strain that has not been previously identified in humans) is thought to originate in live food markets in Wuhan, China through animals and human contact.
How is it transmitted?
Coronaviruses such as the current 2019-NocV are transmitted through the respiratory system, not the gut, so there is a low risk of infection through the consumption of contaminated food. Restaurants can be a site of transmission of coronavirus because of the large numbers of people congregating in close quarters and then coughing/sneezing could spread the disease just like in other places (transportation, schools, etc). But the food itself isn’t a likely vehicle.
Signs of infection?
Common signs of infection include respiratory symptoms, fever, cough, shortness of breath and breathing difficulties. In more severe cases and those with weakened immune systems, an infection can cause pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure, and even death.
Recommendations from the World Health Organization (WHO):
Standard recommendations to prevent infection spread include regular hand washing, covering mouth+nose when coughing/sneezing, and avoiding close contact with anyone showing symptoms of respiratory illness such as coughing and sneezing.
