A salmonella outbreak has been linked to charcuterie meats sold nationwide under various brands, including Aldi, Beretta, Black Bear, Busseto, Culinary Tour, Dietz and Watson, Lidl, Publix, and Salumi Artigianali. As of February 15, 2024, 87 people across 30 states have fallen ill, with 18 hospitalizations reported.... See More The states mentioned in the investigation are AZ, CA, CO, CT, FL, ID, IL, IA, KY, LA, MD, MA, MI, MN, MO, NE, NJ, NY, ND, OH, OK, OR, PA, TN, TX, UT, VT, VA, WA, and WI.

The outbreak is currently under active investigation, with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), public health and regulatory officials in several states, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (USDA-FSIS) involved. The charcuterie meat products from Fratelli Beretta have been identified as the source of the infections. Since the last update, 40 more illnesses have been reported. Illnesses started on dates ranging from November 20, 2023, to January 20, 2024. No deaths have been reported.

Whole genome sequencing showed it is a different strain of Salmonella from ill people in this outbreak and the Antipasto collected by the Minnesota Department of Health. The true number of sick people in this outbreak is likely much higher than the number reported, as many people recover without medical care and are not tested for Salmonella.

In case you are experiencing Salmonella symptoms such as diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever, it is important to report it. It can help to detect & resolve outbreaks early and prevent others from being harmed, and it enables better surveillance. If symptoms persist, seek medical care.

Fratelli Beretta USA, Inc., is recalling an undetermined amount of ready-to-eat charcuterie meat products due to possible under-processing, which could lead to contamination with foodborne pathogens. These items have been distributed to retailers nationwide.

The recalled products are the company's ready-to-eat Coppa meats, with various best-by dates.... See More The products bear establishment numbers "EST. M47967 or M7543B" either inside the USDA mark of inspection or in inkjet print on the package front. The products subject to the recall and the product labels are available in the link below.

FSIS is working with the CDC and state public health partners to investigate a multistate outbreak of Salmonella. FSIS collected unopened RTE Coppa product as part of the investigation, which tested positive for Salmonella, but that product was not released into commerce. After further investigation, FSIS determined that the product subject to the recall may be under processed. Further testing is ongoing to determine if the product sample that tested positive for Salmonella is related to the outbreak.

FSIS is concerned that some product may be in retailers’ and consumers’ refrigerators. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.

If you or a loved one are harmed or experiencing any symptoms, it is important to report it. Reporting can help to detect & resolve outbreaks early and prevent others from being harmed, and enable better surveillance. If symptoms persist, seek medical care.

Last two days, Feb 15 and 16 th. First night I thought it was the red bell pepper on my veggie bowl. I don't usually eat them. I had some leftover salsa I brought home with me and ate it the next day with some chips I... See More had at home. Last night once again I had stomach pain and diarrhea in the middle of the night just like the night before. I'm thinking it must be the salsa. I had leftovers of all three kinds so not sure which one was the culprit. I don't usually have any problems with my stomach so I'm pretty sure chipotle was the cause. It was the first time I've ever eaten there. The food tasted fine and I actually enjoyed it, thought I would like to go back again sometime. Not sure now if I will, maybe different location if I do.
