“On 05 feb 2020 at 5 pm my sister had kunefe and since the kunafa was big she asked the remaining to be packed for take away and she brought the same to home. Kids at home ate the kunafa and now all of them are not feeling well including... my sister and they are vomiting. ”
“I purchased an earthbound Farm Caesar salad kit last Saturday. I ate it that evening and then woke up a few hours later and vomited all night. I have gotten sick from this before but since I wasn’t 100% sure this was the culprit I decided to try the salad... again and got sick again. I don’t see any recalls for this product but I am nearly 100% sure that is what made me sick ”
“vegetarian salad-lentils, avocado, pickled carrot, spinach. Lemony dressing. I bought the salad around 4 pm. I had not eaten lunch. The nausea started when I got into bed, around 11:30. It got progressively strong and I could not sleep. I decided not to vomit, but could have easily. I looked... up how to relieve nausea and found sutting up a fresh lemon and smelling it and sucking it did the trick. I did not have any fresh ginger, which is the preferred remedy. The smell relieve the nausea and I went to sleep. ”
“We had dinner Sunday night. My husband had a burrito but I had a bowl with romaine lettuce. I ate all the romaine but didn’t finish cause i was full. I ate around 7:10pm. I woke up at 5am and I felt nauseous. From 9am-11pm I vomited and had some... major stomach cramps. I had to call my husband to leave work because I started having major cramping and couldn’t stand up to stay alert ”
“Went for an early Valentine's dinner had what I thought was a lovely (EXPENSIVE $250) dinner and after several hours back home (not eating or drinking anything) was hit by nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Was sick all night. ”
“We ate the same food We ordered food for the night, 2 for one combo for R48 which inclues two steak burgers and along with that we ordered the chicken combo as which was slightly cheaper. Ever since the following day my father has been in the toilet early morning,... then after a while it was me. Then my brother and my mother. Clearly there is something wrong and therefore their food is contaminated ”
“There is some confusion surrounding the current Coronavirus (called 2019-NocV) outbreak that began in December 2019 and whether you can get it through food. Here is some information:
What is Coronavirus?
Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses found in both animals and humans. Past outbreaks include Middle East Respiratory... Syndrome (MERS) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS). The current novel Coronavirus (a new strain that has not been previously identified in humans) is thought to originate in live food markets in Wuhan, China through animals and human contact.
How is it transmitted?
Coronaviruses such as the current 2019-NocV are transmitted through the respiratory system, not the gut, so there is a low risk of infection through the consumption of contaminated food. Restaurants can be a site of transmission of coronavirus because of the large numbers of people congregating in close quarters and then coughing/sneezing could spread the disease just like in other places (transportation, schools, etc). But the food itself isn’t a likely vehicle.
Signs of infection?
Common signs of infection include respiratory symptoms, fever, cough, shortness of breath and breathing difficulties. In more severe cases and those with weakened immune systems, an infection can cause pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure, and even death.
Recommendations from the World Health Organization (WHO):
Standard recommendations to prevent infection spread include regular hand washing, covering mouth+nose when coughing/sneezing, and avoiding close contact with anyone showing symptoms of respiratory illness such as coughing and sneezing.
