Outbreak
Santander, Cantabria, Spain
Brittany Ferries’ Pont-Aven, traveling from Santander in Spain to Plymouth, had to unexpectedly dock in France due to a severe food poisoning outbreak among crew members. Crisis hit at dawn when many of the crew started displaying symptoms consistent with food poisoning, causing immediate diversion to the port of Brest, France. The Finistère state services confirmed the incident, stating that 34 crew members had fallen ill. Fortunately, this outbreak has, as yet, not affected the 982 passengers on board. The prompt detection of the issue was owed to the swift deterioration in the health of the infected crew members. French medical teams promptly boarded the ferry upon its unexpected docking in Brest, conducting a full medical evaluation. Later confirmed, the outbreak was indeed severe food poisoning, reinforcing the earlier declaration by the state services of Finistère.
Any passenger aboard the Plymouth ferry should monitor their health closely during this time period.
