Georgia National Fair linked to E. Coli (STEC) outbreak

3 years ago source northcentralhealthdistrict.org

Outbreak

Georgia, United States

North Central Health District (NCHD) and the Department of Public Health (DPH) are working with the staff of the Georgia National Fairgrounds & Agricenter to investigate cases of E.coli in attendees of the Georgia National Fair in Perry, which was held Oct. 7-17.

As of Oct. 28, a total of 4 children infected with E.coli (STEC) have been reported in counties across the state of Georgia. 3 of these cases have been hospitalized and no deaths were reported. Of the 4 cases, one has been confirmed to be E.coli 0157:H7. The investigation is ongoing.

In case you are experiencing E. coli symptoms such as watery diarrhea (often bloody), vomiting; stomach cramps; and mild fever, it is important to report it. It can help to detect & resolve outbreaks early and prevent others from being harmed, and it enables better surveillance.
