Health Alert for Diners at Dairy Queen BC due to Hepatitis A exposure

1 year ago source islandhealth.ca business

1030 Cliffe Avenue, Courtenay, V9N 2J7 British Columbia, Canada

Island Health is notifying people who dined at the Dairy Queen Grill and Chill Restaurant in Courtenay (1030 Cliffe Ave, Courtenay) about a possible exposure to hepatitis A.

Island Health Public Health recommends that people who consumed food at the restaurant between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. on September 10, 12, 13, or 14 should receive a free dose of hepatitis A vaccine within 14 days of their last visit to the restaurant.

The vaccine is available at the Comox Valley Health Unit (961 England Avenue, Courtenay). No appointment is needed:
Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.; Wednesdays extended hours till 7 p.m.
Saturday-Sunday 9:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. (Sept 21-22 only)
The office is closed from 12 - 1 p.m. every day

Those who are outside the Comox Valley should contact their local Public Health unit. Those who have previously been infected with hepatitis A or those who received two doses of the hepatitis A vaccine prior to the possible exposure event do not require further immunization.

In case you experience Hepatitis A symptoms such as fever, nausea, abdominal cramps, diarrhea, dark-colored urine, and jaundice (a yellowing of the skin), it is important to report it. It can help to detect & resolve issues and prevent others from being harmed, and it enables better surveillance. If symptoms persist, seek medical care.
