Hepatitis A Case Confirmed at Milwaukee Food Establishment

1 day ago source city.milwaukee.gov business

Outbreak

1901 East North Avenue, Milwaukee, 53202 Wisconsin, United States

The City of Milwaukee Health Department (MHD) has confirmed a case of Hepatitis A at Beans & Barley, East North Avenue, Milwaukee, WI, USA. The infected individual is an employee of the restaurant. MHD is offering vaccinations to potentially exposed individuals to prevent further spread of the virus.

The employee was infectious between October 31 and November 13, 2024, and worked at the establishment during this period. Hepatitis A can be transmitted through contaminated food and water. The MHD is working with the restaurant to identify and notify individuals who may have been exposed. Beans & Barley remains open and there is no known ongoing risk to patrons who did not consume food from the restaurant outside of the specified timeframe.

In case you experienced Hepatitis A symptoms such as fever, nausea, abdominal cramps, diarrhea, dark-colored urine, and jaundice (a yellowing of the skin), it is important to report it. It can help to detect & resolve issues and prevent others from being harmed, and it enables better surveillance. If symptoms persist, seek medical care.
