Vancouver Coastal Health has issued a warning about a potential hepatitis A exposure linked to Pepper Creek Pizza & Pasta in Sechelt, B.C. The alert concerns individuals who consumed salads at the restaurant between July 31 and August 14, and August 23 to 29. This follows a similar notification for Sea Monkey Coffee in Gibsons ((1632 Sunshine Coast Hwy.)), affecting multiple patrons. The health authority advises that those who consumed salads during the specified dates at Pepper Creek Pizza & Pasta may be at risk. However, individuals who ate cooked items such as pizza, sandwiches, and pasta are not considered at risk. The advisory recommends that those who consumed salads between August 23 and 29 receive a hepatitis A vaccination within two weeks of exposure to prevent infection.
The potential exposure was identified following a previous alert for Sea Monkey Coffee, where patrons were advised to get vaccinated if they consumed food between August 1 and 25. Vancouver Coastal Health emphasizes that while the risk of transmission is low, individuals should monitor for symptoms of hepatitis A, which can appear two to seven weeks after exposure. Symptoms include fatigue, nausea, abdominal pain, fever, and jaundice. The outbreak was discovered through routine public health monitoring and subsequent investigations into reported cases.
