Listeria Outbreak Under Investigation by FDA

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is currently investigating an outbreak of Listeria monocytogenes (ref #1292). The pathogen has affected three people so far, with the source product yet to be identified.The outbreak was first reported on March 5, 2025. The FDA has not yet linked the Listeria monocytogenes to any specific product, making the source of the outbreak unclear at this time. The investigation is active and ongoing, with the total case count currently standing at three. The FDA has initiated a traceback and sample collection to further investigate the source of the outbreak.
The discovery of the problem came about through routine monitoring and testing. The FDA's traceback initiative, which involves tracing the path of foodborne illnesses to their source, was promptly initiated. The agency has also begun sample collection to further identify the pathogen and its source.
