Kings Mill Hospital in Nottinghamshire has reported an outbreak of norovirus, commonly known as the winter vomiting bug, affecting nine individuals. The hospital has closed one ward in response to the outbreak. Nine people were struck down with norovirus. The outbreak was discovered when the hospital noticed an unusual increase in patients presenting with symptoms of norovirus. This increase in demand for services, coupled with the closure of one ward, has led to longer wait times and increased pressure on hospital staff. The hospital has not seen this many cases of norovirus since the pandemic, when social contact was drastically reduced.
The hospital, run by Sherwood Forest Hospitals Trust, has advised the public to avoid their A&E department unless they have a life-threatening condition or serious injury. The hospital is also experiencing significant delays due to treating double the number of patients it is designed to handle at any given time.
